Lalage Beaumont opens first store in China

British luxury bags brand Lalage Beaumont London has opened its newest boutique at the UK Pavilion within Boundless Matro Boutique in Suzhou, China.

It’s big step for the company as it’s the first retail partnership it has made in China. Its existing stores are all in its home city with locations in London’s Knightsbridge, Burlington Arcade and Belgravia. It also has a number of stockists including higher-end department stores and independent boutiques around the world.

Boundless Matro Boutique Village opened its UK Pavilion following launches of Japan, Italy, Australia & New Zealand, and Korea Pavilions. The UK one “focuses on cultural experiences, combining British style with traditional Suzhou aesthetics to offer visitors a cross-cultural lifestyle and shopping experience”.

Lalage Beaumont said its handbag collections “take pride of place within The Gallery Fashion (Outdoor Zone) where shoppers are immediately transported to a luxury shopping arena inspired by the bustling streets of London”.

Isabella Liu, international brands development representative of Matro Group, said the label is a good fit for the location as it “represents both British women’s attitude and Chinese women’s preferences”.

Boundless Matro is a veteran Chinese luxury retailer and its Boutique Village has been revitalised from 22 vintage warehouses originally built in the 1950s. Covering 25,000 sq m with a building area of 17,000 sq m, it’s in the heart of Suzhou’s historic centre, giving it a strategic position in one of the city’s key tourist districts.
