On September 16, the Union des Industries de la Mode et de l’Habillement (UFIMH), the Union des Industries Textiles (UIT), and the European confederation Euratex will sign a charter to combat ultra-fast fashion.

The meeting will take place at the Première Vision Paris trade show, to be held at the Parc des Expositions de Villepinte from September 16 to 18. The meeting, to which exhibitors belonging to the various federations are invited, marks “an unprecedented mobilization”, note the three representative bodies.

The federations “intend to raise with one voice the urgent need for European action, coordinated by the Commission, to protect European industries and the 450 million European consumers.”

“We are going to sign a European anti ultra fast-fashion charter, thus demonstrating a common position for the industry, a common discourse that aims to bring about concrete action, whether in terms of fees or applicable taxes,” Olivier Ducatillion, president of the UIT, explained to FashionNetwork.com.

He also insisted on the need for responsiveness and solidarity within the industry on this subject: “Because these players know how to pounce on any loophole they find.”

Première Vision Paris had already hosted a major gathering of federations at its February edition. The Comité stratégique de filière mode et luxe (Strategic Committee for the Fashion and Luxury Sector) had invited industry and government players to discuss issues such as environmental labelling. FashionNetwork.com reported on the tense atmosphere.
