Depop links with Photoroom on AI photo editing for millions of sellers

Side hustles – people looking to create a second income – are growing (worth £72 million annually) in the UK and many are turning to the second-hand fashion market, which generates sales of up to £7 billion every year, according the Centre for Economics and Business Research and Utility Warehouse.

Depop

That was the signal for artificial intelligence (AI) photo editor Photoroom to partner with fashion resale marketplace Depop.

Integrating Photoroom’s technology directly into Depop’s seller experience, the partnership “will provide millions of online sellers access to professional-grade, AI-powered image editing tools”.

It says this collaboration “will set a new standard for a best-in-class selling experience, harnessing the vast capabilities of AI to empower and support sellers”.

Matthieu Rouif, co-founder and CEO of Photoroom, added: “By providing AI-driven tools at scale, we are helping the community of creators flourish in an increasingly competitive market.”

With the pair citing studies that show 75% of shoppers rely on product photography to make purchase decisions, and 63% believe images are more important than written product descriptions, Photoroom says it eliminates these barriers through AI automation, “enabling sellers to instantly remove backgrounds, enhance images with drop shadows, resize assets for different settings and product types, and generate polished, on-brand visuals in seconds”.

They claim faster listings, higher-quality photos, more consistency and stronger shopper trust.

“Our community is at the heart of everything we do, and we are always looking for ways to make things easier for our buyers and sellers ,” added Sonia Biddle, chief product officer at Depop.
