Primark opened its 13th store in Portugal on Thursday, June 26. The launch marks the third of four new locations announced by the Irish retailer a year ago as part of its expansion plan in the national market.

Located in Palácio do Gelo Shopping, the new store marks Primark’s debut in the city and represents a 7 million euro investment by the company. The opening has generated 80 new jobs.
Spread across a single floor, the store offers more than 2,750 square meters of commercial space. Primark Viseu features the brand’s collections for men, women, children and the home. In addition to traditional checkout counters, the store includes 12 self-checkout counters—a service currently available only in the Guimarães, Montijo, Sintra and Portimão locations.

The Viseu opening represents Primark’s latest phase in the Portuguese market’s expansion strategy. Announced in June 2024, the 40 million euro investment plan also includes new stores in Montijo and Guimarães (inaugurated in October last year and May this year, respectively), a planned arrival in Covilhã in 2026, and the expansion of Primark Colombo, which recently reopened with more than 6,000 square meters of space.
Once all four planned store openings are complete, Primark will operate 14 stores across Portugal, expanding its commercial footprint by over 30% and generating more than 500 new jobs nationwide.
Simultaneously, the Irish retailer has focused on refurbishing its existing stores.
After redesigning the locations in Sintra and Portimão, Primark plans to renovate its Parque Nascente and Braga stores in July.
