M&S getting back to normal after cyberattack, third-party brands now available online

M&S is gradually getting back on track after the devastating cyberattack this spring and has now reintroduced a selection of third-party brands to its webstore.

It had on 10 June restored online and click & collect sales for its own brand but now labels including Adidas, Lilybod, Girlfriend Collective, Asics, Columbia, New Balance and Under Armour are also available to buy online. Brands such as Dune, Ghost and Monsoon are expected to be available in the weeks ahead.

At the same time the retail giant has reduced its standard home delivery times for its customers in England, Scotland, and Wales, from 10 days to five.

The restoration of a more business-as-usual service comes after online sales were halted for almost six weeks in the wake of the April cyberattack.
“It has been challenging, but it is a moment in time, and we are now focused on recovery, with the aim of exiting this period a much stronger business,” said CEO Stuart Machin.

Late spring saw a number of retailers and brands suffering cyberattacks not just in the UK but internationally. Those targeted included Adidas, Victoria’s Secret, Harrods, The North Face, Dior, Cartier and The Co-op.

M&S has already said that the attack could cost it £300 million in operating profit this year, although cost efficiencies and insurance should allow it to offset around half of this. And the company has also said that it has discovered better ways of working as far as cyber security is concerned as a result of the devastation it faced.

M&S tech partner Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) recently said it wasn’t the gateway for the cyberattack with “no TCS systems or users compromised” and its other clients unaffected.
